How to Wash Linen

Contrary to popular belief, linen is really easy to care for, and it only gets better and softer with each wash. Quality linen bedding can give you a lifetime of comfort and ask only a little tender loving care in return. By following these simple steps you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.

HOW TO WASH LINEN BED SHEETS?

You can wash your linen bedding in the washing machine on a gentle cycle in warm or cold water (up to 40°C / 104°F). We recommend not to overcrowd the washing machine with too many items at once and sort your sheets by color. Never wash dark colors with white or bright color linen.

Linen is best washed with a mild detergent that is intended for delicate fabrics, with no harsh chemicals like bleach, color brighteners, or enzymes. Bleach can cause staining, damage and weaken linen fabric fibers.

If you desire to hand wash your bed linen, the same rules apply as when you are washing them in the machine: wash in lukewarm water, use mild detergent, and do not bleach.

HOW TO DRY LINEN SHEETS?

When it comes to drying your bed linens, simply hanging up the sheets on a drying rack or outdoor clothesline and letting them air-dry is the most sustainable way. However, you can absolutely tumble dry. When doing so, choose a dry cycle with low heat setting.

For best results, put the sheets in a dryer for 10-12 minutes and then hang them while damp to air-dry the rest of the way. This will make the linen softer and with fewer wrinkles.

HOW TO IRON LINEN SHEETS?

There is no need to iron linen bedding. In fact, we think that the casual rumpled look of natural linen is part of its beauty. But if you prefer to iron, dampen the fabric first and ensure your iron is on low heat setting.

HOW TO REMOVE STAINS FROM LINEN?

It is best to act fast and try to remove the stain as soon as possible before it has a chance to set. You can do this by simply soaking the stained area in cool water, applying a bit of baking soda and a few drops of vinegar. Then gently rub the spot with a cotton swab and rinse with cool water.

SHOULD YOU WASH YOUR LINEN BEDDING BEFORE USE?

While our linen is pre-washed for exceptional softness, we suggest washing your sheets before using them. You can expect more lint than usual during the first washing, but don’t worry, lint will lessen after a few washings.
